Artist Spotlight - MARY SINGLETON
Our artist spotlight series highlights new collections from our artist studios as well as a behind the scenes look at their process & inspiration. This month, we are pleased to spotlight artist Mary Singleton. Singleton is a New Orleans-based painter who graduated with a BFA from Louisiana State University. She is known for her vibrant botanical compositions.
In the artist's own words:
Nature is a hauntingly wild force that New Orleans has had to learn to coexist with. Both beneficial & contentious, the surrounding waters have taken life and given it. It is with respect and awe of this beautiful force that I seek to create a dialogue between the city and its natural surroundings.
The motion and fluidity across my body of work is inspired by the unique geographical traits of the region. Informed by rolling waters & dense foliage, each of my pieces is layered with a plush and chromatic visual representation of the tension that has shaped the city that I call home.
Ideally my work seeks to create a conversation about the nature of man and his surroundings working with sub-tropically inspired, sometimes abstracted, botanicals as a unifying familiar symbol.
