Artist Spotlight - Megan Lightell
We are honored to spotlight tonalist painter Megan Lightell and her new collection of landscapes. Lightell begins her process in nature, taking a small "easel" or sketchbook into fields, along waterways, and in environmental refuges to make preliminary sketches “en plein air”. From there, she returns to her studio, transferring what she saw and, more importantly, experienced in an environment into a larger body of work.

Note: In 2025, Lightell began to explore “place” at night. In her own words - Part of our daily and yearly cycle, periods of darkness remind us that rest, stillness, and withdrawal are essential to the revival, new growth, and light that follow. In times that feel heavy and opaque, the night and the long dark season teach us to be still, to recover, and to remember that lighter days will return.
